In accordance with The Planning and Development Act, 1983, the Department oversees land development throughout the City of Yorkton. The long-term objective is to manage the growth and design of the City pursuant to the policies of the Development Plan. The department works closely with Building and Development Department to promote residential, industrial, and commercial expansion in both new and existing built-up areas.

The department is responsible for the day-to-day application of the Zoning Bylaw regulations as they relate to the development, use, and subdivision of land, including the issuance of subdivision approvals, development permits, discretionary uses, and minor variances.
