Candidate Profiles
Valerie Miller
My name is Valerie Miller and I am a candidate for the position of trustee with the Good Spirit School Division Board. I am a stay-at-home mom and community volunteer who was born and raised in Yorkton. My husband and I have three children ages 20, 14 and 12.
My experiences with education have been those of a student, a teacher, a volunteer literacy tutor, an Adult Basic Education instructor, a parent, a parent-advocate and a school board trustee.
I believe that every child has the ability to learn and that school boards need to provide quality learning experiences for students in order for them to develop the skills required to become productive, creative, respectful and caring members of the community. In order to ensure success, these skills need to be taught in an environment where students feel valued, safe and cared for and where communication with the home is encouraged, promoted and on-going.
During the past four years as a member of the Good Spirit School Division Board, I have participated in the establishment and development of the division itself, have come to understand the roles and responsibilities of the board, especially that of fiscal management, sat on the City of Yorkton’s Municipal Planning Commission as a member and Vice-Chair and most importantly had the opportunity to listen to and talk with students, parents, teachers, administrators, support staff and members of the community.
I would welcome the opportunity to continue to serve as a member of the Good Spirit School Division Board of Education and ask for your support on October 28th.
