What do I do if I own a dog?
You'll need to purchase an annual Dog
License. Pursuant to Section 3(1) of the City of Yorkton Bylaw No. 1/2001, it is
mandatory for any person who keeps, possesses, harbors or has charge of or
control over any dog, to obtain a license before January 31st in each calendar
year and place it's tag on the dog's collar.
What about vaccinations?
Dogs in the City of Yorkton are required to
have up-to-date vaccinations each year. When applying for a license, the
applicant must provide a certificate from a Veterinary Surgeon indicating that
the dog has been vaccinated against rabies within two years of the date of the
application for the license.

You can obtain a license from:

How much does a Dog License cost?
Annual license fee rates as follows:
- $10.00 - Spayed or Neutered
- $20.00 - Not Spayed or Neutered
- $10.00 - Pups between the age of 0 and 12 months (not yet spayed or neutered)
What is the maximum number of dogs allowed?
Individuals in the City
are allowed to own a maximum of three dogs over the age of three months.
What are some of the penalties a dog owner can be charged for?
If the
owner of any dog does not obtain a license before January 31st in each calendar
year this constitutes as an offence under the City bylaw-first offence being
$50.00 violation.
The owner of any dog running at large will be issued a ticket and the dog
maybe impounded by the Bylaw Control Officer. The penalty for such an offence is
$50.00. In addition, if impounded the Pound Fee is $30.00 for licensed and
unlicensed dogs for the first offence and $60.00 for subsequent offences.
Please carry a plastic bag at all times when you are walking your pet so you
can remove defecation from public property immediately. Failure to do so will
result in fines of $50.00 for the first offence and $100.00 for subsequent
offences committed within a 12 month period.
Dogs creating excessive noise will result in the owner being charged $100.00
for the first offence and $200.00 for second and subsequent offences.
